Manchester City came back for a fourth successive Premier League home game to defeat Fulham 3-2 and preserve their undefeated start to the season. The early pressure indeed belonged to City, but Fulham curiously opened the scoring when Raul Jimenez’s smart flick teed up Andreas Pereira to volley home.
The first could have been two-nil as Adama Traore missed a gilt-edged opportunity, and City punished them almost immediately as a thunderous drive by Mateo Kovacić deflected off Joachim Andersen to bring the hosts level. Kovacic struck again early in the second half, guiding a shot into the corner as he scored his second of the game.
It was to be all over now, as Fulham continued to threaten, Traore and Jimenez close, but City’s defense holds firm. Jeremy Doku sealed the win in spectacular fashion by firing a long-range shot into the top corner and made it 3-1.
Fulham pulled one back late through Rodrigo Muniz, but it was not enough as City held on to stretch their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 30 matches. The win also stretched an incredible undefeated home record across all competitions at the Etihad Stadium to 50 games.
