The boat they were traveling in capsized off the coast of Syria on Thursday, killing at least 86 people, according to the nation’s state-run media.
Twenty survivors were evacuated to the hospital, and rescuers are still looking for the passengers who are still missing.
The 120 to 150 passengers, including women and children, are believed to be Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian nationals. What caused the accident is unclear.
The ship had left Minyeh, a city adjacent to Tripoli in Lebanon, according to officials, and was headed toward the Syrian island of Arwad, which is close to Tartus.
It’s thought that the boat was on its way to Cyprus when it went down.
The survivors have been taken to Tartus, which is located around 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Tripoli. The Lebanese Red Cross would receive the bodies of unidentified casualties at the border crossing, according to the Syrian news agency Sana.
