Borussia Dortmund’s long-serving attacking midfielder, Marco Reus, has announced his departure from the club at the end of the season. The decision comes after a mutual agreement between Reus and the club not to extend his contract, bringing an end to his illustrious tenure at Dortmund.

Having joined the club in 2012 and also spending a decade in Dortmund’s youth system, Reus has been a stalwart figure for the team, amassing an impressive record of 168 goals and 128 assists in 424 appearances. Renowned for his skill, goalscoring prowess, and astute gameplay, Reus notably captained the team for five years until 2023.

While Reus enjoyed success with Dortmund, winning two German Cups during his tenure, he narrowly missed out on claiming the Bundesliga title last season, highlighting the bittersweet nature of his time at the club. Despite this, Reus remains focused on achieving success in his final season, with Dortmund currently competing in the Champions League semi-finals.

In a video statement addressing the fans, Reus expressed his pride and gratitude for the opportunity to represent Dortmund for over half his life. “I have spent more than half my life at this club. I am proud and happy to have played for so many years here,” he remarked, emphasizing his emotional connection to the club and its supporters.

As Dortmund continues their quest for Champions League glory, with a 1-0 first-leg victory against Paris Saint-Germain, Reus remains determined to contribute to the team’s success. With aspirations of reaching the final and bringing the trophy back to Dortmund, Reus’s departure adds an extra layer of significance to the team’s European campaign.

Dortmund will face PSG in the return leg, aiming to secure their spot in the final for the first time since 2013. Despite Reus’s impending departure, Dortmund’s focus remains on achieving their goals, both domestically and in Europe, as they strive to end the season on a high note.
