The atmosphere wasn’t what anyone hoped it would be at UFC 329, as Conor McGregor suffered a knee injury in the opening 69 seconds of his comeback fight against Max Holloway in Las Vegas.
The fight between Holloway and McGregor kicked off with the Irishman, a former two-division king, attacking with heavy kicks right out of the gate. However, just 69 seconds into the bout, the Irishman was down after a knee appeared to buckle.
McGregor would get back up to his feet, but it was clear the equilibrium wasn’t quite right, as the bout was stopped quickly by referee Mike Beltran for a first-round TKO win for Holloway.

This was the first fight for McGregor since he snapped his leg in 2021 against Dustin Poirier and, after tonight, the Irishman’s streak continues as this marks his fourth loss in five bouts. However, a win is a win, though Holloway did state it wasn’t exactly how he expected things to play out: “You know there’s going to be a Holloway vs McGregor 3 now, the man… So much hype. We have to run it back one more time.” Holloway moved to 28-9 in his career.
The win officially marks his welterweight debut and will have Holloway deciding whether to stay at 170 lbs or move back down to the lightweight division in hopes of a shot at a third UFC title.
