Kylian Mbappe assumed responsibility for Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, acknowledging his failure to make the desired impact in the crucial semi-final clash. Despite registering a game-high three shots on target and displaying glimpses of attacking prowess, Mbappe conceded that his performance fell short of expectations.

The French forward, poised to depart PSG at the conclusion of the season, expressed regret over his inability to deliver the decisive contributions expected of him. Reflecting on the match, Mbappe candidly admitted, “I tried to help my team as best as I could, but I didn’t do enough. I’m the guy who should score goals and be decisive.”

Despite PSG’s dominance in possession and their flurry of shots on goal, the team ultimately fell short in both penalty areas, failing to capitalize on their opportunities. Mbappe recognized the significance of clinical finishing in high-stakes Champions League encounters, acknowledging, “In decisive Champions League matches, when you’re not effective in both boxes, it’s difficult to get through to the next round.”

While acknowledging the disappointment of the defeat, Mbappe remained optimistic about PSG’s future prospects, emphasizing the need for resilience and continued effort. “We’re certainly disappointed, but it’s not all doom and gloom,” he remarked. “We need to build on that and keep working, because I’m sure we’ll get there.”

As PSG bids farewell to Mbappe, the star forward’s introspective assessment underscores the team’s determination to learn from the setback and strive for future success. Despite the disappointment of their Champions League exit, Mbappe’s willingness to shoulder accountability reflects the ethos of a team committed to growth and redemption on the European stage.
