Napoli’s Scott McTominay has been awarded Serie A Player of the Year after an eye-catching season in Italy. The Scottish midfielder netted 13 goals and assisted six times in all competitions under head coach Antonio Conte, thus making him the most instrumental player of the Neapolitan side’s title-grabbing campaign.
As a result, McTominay is the first Scottish player to win the award, and he is now in a record of the best players that have ever won it, which includes Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kaka, Francesco Totti, and Zinedine Zidane. In addition to that, he broke the 63-year-old record of Denis Law for the highest number of goals scored by a Scotsman in a single season of Serie A by scoring 12 goals in the league.

The ex-Man United midfielder, after he had been presented with the trophy, was full of thanks to the club and its fans. “Napoli was a welcome and smooth fit for me. It is awesome to be here and get this award.” McTominay said.
“Thank you first to the team, the staff. Thank you, my teammates. My relationship with Naples is unique.”
On a mere 25 million-pounds deal, McTominay has already made a fantastic addition to the squad and will likely make another appearance in the Coppa Italia match against Cagliari on Wednesday as Napoli seek to add more trophies to their cabinet.
