Inter Miami announced via a video that Lionel Messi has signed a new contract extension keeping him at the club until 2028. The video shows Messi signing his new deal while sitting in Miami Freedom Park, the team’s under-construction 25,000-seater stadium that will open in 2026.
It was confirmed that his previous contract would expire at the end of 2025 but with the new agreement, the Argentine star’s future is secured with Miami until 2028. It’s worth mentioning that Messi will be 41 years old when the contract runs out.
Messi has been a key player in Inter Miami’s success since his move in the middle of the 2023 season and he has put up a record-breaking performance by scoring 71 goals in 82 appearances, out of which, 29 have been scored in 28 matches to achieve the 2025 MLS Golden Boot Award. Also, he led Miami to the 2023 Leagues Cup and 2024 Supporters’ Shield triumphs.
On the other hand, the buzz keeps growing around Miami Freedom Park, a project fully funded by the private sector, which will not only offer the standard elements of a stadium but will also have public parks, retail spaces, and community soccer fields thus, securing Messi’s legacy in Miami off the field as well.
