Unknown arsonists reportedly set ablaze a filling station belonging to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah early Friday morning. Pinnacle Oil, owned by the governor, was targeted, with witnesses indicating the assailants arrived in a Toyota Corolla. However, the Enugu State Police Command has suggested that the fire may have resulted from a fuel leakage from vehicles queued for fuel.
According to a statement from DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred at Pinnacle Filling Station on Agbani Road. Fire services swiftly extinguished the flames, preventing loss of life, although three vehicles were damaged.
“Normalcy has since been restored,” Ndukwe reported, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
Following the incident, the Agbani Road leading to the fuel station has been secured by fire service and security personnel, with at least four cars affected by the blaze.
