This decision comes in the wake of a recent incident involving the Wagner Group, a mercenary organization. The group attempted an armed mutiny that briefly seized control of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and embarked on a march towards Moscow. The leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, claimed that the mutiny was a demonstration against incompetence and corruption within Russia’s top military brass.
The salary increase for military personnel can be seen as a response from the government, aimed at addressing some of the concerns raised by the Wagner Group’s actions.
