The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, had on Friday visited the bereaved family of late Selimota Idowu, a principal accountant with the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, who had been crushed to death by a passenger train in Abuja, the visit is coming eight days after the tragic incident.

The minister while consoling the family stated that the Federal Capital Territory Administration had taken steps and talked to the Minister of Transport to take actions toward constructing an overhead bridge in the area. She had also promised to assist and support the family.

According to her statement, “I am here to share your pains with you at the moment and beyond. I want to assure you that steps have been taken, we have written a memo to the Federal Ministry of Transport to ensure that the needful is done, and a pedestrian bridge is put across the rail and not only here. We will look at other communities that are exposed to dangers like this in the FCT.”

“We have put in place a strong committee that will help in enlightening the general public on the danger of crossing particularly the pedestrians, and the danger of the effect of the magnetic effect of the train itself.”
