The Nigerian singer Mr. May D explains how he has missed golden opportunities that could make him collaborate with American superstar, Akon, out of associated ties with twin music duo, P-Square.
May D appeared on the “Honest Bunch” podcast and disclosed that Akon was a fan of his hit track “Chop My Money” and reached out for a collaboration. He said the deal collapsed after informing P-Square about Akon’s offer. May D explained that P-Square wasn’t ready to sign him officially at the time but was only ready to promote his career, just like they had been doing with other artists.
Akon had intended to shoot the “Chop My Money” video in the U.S., and was promising to return May D to America for future deals. But events never went that way after May D told P-Square about his intentions. Reflecting on these, May D regrets not keeping the Akon deal to himself, hinting that transparency cost him a major breakthrough.
Looking back on the missed opportunity, May D says his loyalty may have been a mistake that had him thinking of what could have been.
