Network provider MTN Nigeria, yesterday disclosed that its plans to debut its 5G network would be launched come August 24, 2022. The Operator announced this at the telecom consumer parliament’s 90th edition, organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission ¬-NCC in Ikeja, Lagos.
This past month, the NCC handed over the last letters of award of the 5G spectrum licenses to winners of the 3.5GHz spectrum auctions held during December, it ordered them to launch their services in August 2022.
Prof Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission reassured the mandate and declared that the winners, MTN and Mafab Communications, were now expected to fast forward the launch of the 5G network that will make Nigeria into a larger Fourth Industrial Revolution and a more digitized Nigerian economy.
Danbatta further said that in line with the terms and conditions of the 5G license, MTN and Mafab Communications would roll out their 5G services from 24 August 2022. The Commission also dispelled rumors and propaganda that the 5G network poses health implications. 5G had been said to provide a lot of benefits and changes that will speed up growth and smart living in Nigeria.
Danbatta explained that the technology would bring considerable network improvements, like higher connection speed, mobility, and capacity, including low-latency capabilities.
