The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control -NAFDAC, has given a general alert on the decision of a U.S. company, Mars Wrigley Confectionery US, LLC, to call back a few of its confectionary snacks.
NAFDAC gave the announcement via a public alert with No.034/2022, signed by its Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, gotten from news reporters on Friday in Abuja.
Prof Adeleye confirmed that the Mars Wrigley Confectionery US, LLC had announced a voluntary recall of particular varieties of Skittles gummies, Starburst gummies, and Lifesavers gummies.
The NAFDAC head added that the company explained that it was recalling the snacks due to the potential presence of certain thin metal strands embedded and found in the gummies.
Mojisola had urged distributors and members of the public who were already in possession of the recalled products to immediately halt sales and consumption and hand over the remaining products to a nearby NAFDAC office.
She said: “Consumers are encouraged to report consumer complaints, and allergic reactions related to the use of any regulated product to the nearest NAFDAC office. They are also encouraged to report any adverse effect to NAFDAC PRASCORE on (20543 TOLL-FREE from all networks), or via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng. The general public is also advised to make their report via the NAFDAC ADR e-Reporting platform available at www.nafdac.gov.ng.”
