The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) with the National Counter Terrorism Centre to fight the menace of counterfeit drugs.
The agency had announced this on Friday via a statement made by its Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye.
NAFDAC further revealed that the move was part of the National Action Plan to put an end to the distribution of medicines used for criminal activities including terrorism, banditry and other violent extremism in the country.
It was also revealed that the MoU signed between the two government agencies was important in reducing deaths among youths.
Professor Adeyeye added that the MoU would ensure that potential hazardous chemical threats that could have unfavourable effects on lives were properly managed.
She also said that the MoU would guarantee that the use of hazardous chemicals for evil intent by non-state actors for development of weapons of mass destruction was prevented.
In reaction to the latest development, the National Coordinator of National Counter Terrorism Centre, Adamu-Garba Laka said that the MoU would help in fighting the challenges of criminality in the country.
