Following ongoing issues with the National Identity Management Commission’s (NIMC) portal, the National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) has made a formal request for an extension of time from September 14 to September 30 for linking National Identification Number (NIN) to Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
NATCOMS National President, Mr. Deolu Ogunbanjo, has disclosed that the NIMC portal’s inability to accommodate the high volume of uploads has contributed to the woes of telecom operators and subscribers.
“We are facing serious challenges in this situation,” Ogunbanjo said. “The portal’s inability to handle the high volume of uploads has led to delays and frustrations for both telecom operators and subscribers.”
He noted that the capacity constraints of the portal have caused congestion and slow upload speeds, adding unnecessary difficulty to both telecom operators and subscribers.
Ogunbanjo stressed the importance of extending the deadline to enable NIMC to increase its portal capacity, thus improving the experience for all parties concerned.
During visits to customer service centers of major telecom operators like Airtel and MTN, subscribers complained about slow upload speeds, confirming the problems with the NIMC portal.
