Nationwide darkness is looming in the horizon as the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, has maintained their stance on withdrawing their services if the Nigerian Government fails to overturn the recently approved electricity tariff hike.
The acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, had released a statement by the NUEE stating that if the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu does not withdraw the tariff, its members will take decisive action.
On April 3, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission increased the electricity tariff for band customers getting 20 hours of power supply daily.
The tariff hike increased the fees of Band A customers to start paying N225 per kilowatt-hour from N66KWh.
The hike in electricity tariff had raised objections from organisations such as the NUEE, NLC, Trade Unions Congress and others who had all condemned the move.
The workers in the power sector had remarked that it was not feasible to have 20 hours of electricity supply, therefore, the government should remove the tariff increase.
The Minister of Power, who spoke through his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, had said that the government was doing everything to improve e look electricity supply in Nigeria, and everybody would be happy at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, since the tariff hike, the power supply distribution in the country has reduced nationwide, leaving citizens lamenting the insufficient power supply across the country.
