The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC) has said that the number of suspected and confirmed Mpox cases in the country has reduced over the past four weeks.
The NCDC had made this announcement via its official website on Monday.
Mpox is an infectious viral disease that occurs in humans and other animals.
Symptoms includes a rash that forms blisters, fever and swollen lymph nodes. The illness is often mild, and most infected persons recover within a few weeks without treatment.
The public health agency had released its latest data, saying that 51 new suspected cases were reported between Epidemiological (Epi) weeks 29 to 32 of 2024.
According to the NCDC, this was a significant drop from the 102 cases reported during the previous four weeks (Epi Week 25 to 28).
The cases were recorded across 26 local government areas in 18 states, and out of the new suspected cases, two were confirmed positive, with one case each reported in Ebonyi and Enugu.
The National Mpox Technical Working Group (TWG), made up of multi-sectoral and multi-partner teams, have renewed its efforts to monitor and respond to the outbreak across the nation, according to the NCDC, and it has urged Nigerians to keep vigilance and adhere to public health guidelines so as to control the spread of Mpox, especially in the affected states.
