NDLEA Seizes Illicit Substances in Six States

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency -NDLEA has just recovered about 46.637 kg of methamphetamine, cocaine , and heroin in six states and the Federal Capital Territory -FCT.

The NDLEA Director of media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed this in a statement issued on Sunday, 30 October in Abuja.

The six states that were raided include: Enugu, Kogi, Ondo, Adamawa, Nasarawa, and Lagos

This is coming after a drug trafficking suspect was on October 26, at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, been arrested with a substance suspected to be cocaine.

The suspect, 27-year-old Miracle Madu, had boarded a flight to Nigeria aboard Ethiopian Airline from Nairobi, Kenya via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

On alighting the flight, a thorough search on Madu revealed that he had 76 foreign bathing soaps made with cocaine in one of his three bags which weighed approx. 10.650 kg.

Additionally, the suspect also had creams made of liquid cocaine weighing 2.496 kg.

Additionally, the NDLEA agency operatives while on a stop and search operation along the Okene-Abuja highway, intercepted a Chisco-branded bus coming in from Lagos to Abuja on October 27.

The bus was with a consignment of 32.9kg of meth which was disguised as tubers of yam, 376 g of cocaine, and 215 g of heroin.

The bus driver of that consignment, Pascal Nmaram, was immediately arrested.

Back in Abuja that same day, a follow-up operation led to the arrest of the recipient of the illegal cargo, Ikenna Akunne.

Babafemi had then reported that the suspect confessed that he had made plans to travel with the consignment to Spain the following day, October 28 through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, before his luck ran out.
