Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began its promotional tour on Sunday night with a historic preview in Lagos, Nigeria, ahead of its release this coming week. Several celebrities, filmmakers, and members of the media were present for the black carpet rollout, which marked a significant occasion and the first local premiere of a Marvel film. The sequel to the movie with a $1.348 billion worldwide box office took place on several screens at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX Lekki.
On Sunday, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Winston Duke, and Michaela Coel were all present along with director Ryan Coogler. Along with soundtrack producers and performers, Nate Moore was also there.
The group has been touring, making their European debut at Cineworld Leicester Square in London last week and having a world premiere in Los Angeles. The film’s African roots were honored at the Nigerian premiere, which was organized in collaboration with FilmOne Entertainment and the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).
Google will offer a masterclass at AFRIFF on Monday, which was founded by Chioma Ude and runs from November 6–12. Ude recently discussed the significance of the African premiere taking place in Nigeria and its connection to the festival. “We are excited and proud to be a part of the premiere of this milestone film here in Africa. This is huge for the continent of Africa as it symbolizes to us further bridging of the gaps between the global film industries,” she said.
In both East and West Africa, the original Black Panther movie continues to be the top choice. Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted its world debut in 2018.
FilmOne Entertainment, whose co-founders Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa, distributes Wakanda Forever in English-speaking West African countries. They said, “Being instrumental to the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in West Africa is a proud achievement and a milestone for us and the entire FilmOne team, it will be celebrated for a long time.”
In time with the U.S., Wakanda Forever debuts in Nigeria on November 11. The film’s international release starts in France on November 9, and it will be released all over the world through the weekend.
