The renewed public dispute involving former P-Square members Peter Okoye (Mr P), Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) and their elder brother, Jude Okoye, has once again drawn attention to one of the most talked-about family feuds in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
What began years ago as disagreements over management, finances and creative control has evolved into a prolonged conflict, with fresh allegations, public responses and emotional revelations continuing to emerge from members of the Okoye family.
Peter Breaks His Silence
The latest chapter unfolded after Peter Okoye released a series of videos on his social media platforms, saying he had decided to present his own account of events after years of remaining silent. According to the singer, many people had formed opinions about the family dispute without hearing his side of the story.
“I’ve watched lies travel farther than the truth. Today, I’m finally giving the truth a voice,” Peter wrote while announcing the video series.
In one of the recordings, the singer challenged anyone, including his twin brother Paul, to contradict his claims with evidence, insisting he was ready to explain what led to the breakdown of their relationship.
Where The Disagreement Began
The dispute between the brothers dates back to the years when P-Square was at the peak of its success. Peter and Paul performed together as one of Africa’s biggest music duos, while their elder brother Jude served as their manager, overseeing the business side of the group.
Although the trio enjoyed enormous commercial success for more than a decade, disagreements gradually emerged behind the scenes. Issues surrounding management decisions, ownership of assets, financial transparency and creative direction reportedly created tension within the family.
Those differences eventually resulted in the group’s first major split in 2017, bringing an end to one of Nigeria’s most successful musical partnerships.
While the brothers later reunited in 2021, the reconciliation proved temporary, as fresh disagreements resurfaced over the management of the group’s finances and music catalogue.
Royalty Dispute Takes Centre Stage
In recent weeks, Peter has intensified his public disclosures, making a series of allegations against Jude regarding the handling of royalties and company assets.
Among his claims, Peter alleged that he discovered undisclosed royalty payments after attempting to obtain the bank statement of Northside Entertainment, only to realise that he had allegedly been removed as a signatory to one of the company’s accounts.
He further claimed that payments generated from the P-Square catalogue between 2017 and 2023 were allegedly diverted through another company known as Northside Music without his knowledge.
Peter also alleged that more than $1.2 million in royalties entered the account during that period, saying he was neither informed nor consulted about the transactions.
Fresh Claims Over US Property
Beyond the royalty dispute, the singer also revisited an earlier disagreement involving a property jointly owned by the former P-Square group in the United States.
According to Peter, the incident occurred in 2015 after the brothers agreed to share some of their assets, including a duplex in the US.
He claimed he later discovered that his portion of the property had allegedly been listed for sale without his consent.
Peter alleged that when he confronted Jude about the matter during a music event, the encounter became heated.
He claimed Jude threatened to slap him before other artistes intervened to calm the situation.
Peter also alleged that he later came across documents intended to transfer his ownership interest in the property to Jude’s wife, Ifeoma Umeokeke, but refused to sign them after noticing the proposed ownership changes.
The singer maintained that these incidents formed part of the events that eventually destroyed trust within the family.
Jude Denies Allegations
Jude Okoye has consistently rejected the allegations made against him.
The former manager has insisted that all proceeds generated from the group’s music were shared fairly among the three brothers and has denied any financial wrongdoing.
His position remains that the financial affairs of the former group were handled transparently during his time as manager.
Ify Okoye Appeals For Peace
Amid the growing controversy, Jude’s wife, Ify Okoye, also addressed the situation through a statement shared on her Instagram Story.
Without directly responding to Peter’s allegations, she said she had been unfairly drawn into a dispute she neither initiated nor wished to participate in.
According to Ify, she would not engage in public accusations or fuel the family disagreement.
“There comes a time when silence is no longer about fear, but about entrusting the truth to God,” she wrote.
She added that she preferred to leave the matter in God’s hands, saying truth would ultimately prevail without manipulation.
Her statement also referenced the biblical story of Ananias and Sapphira, emphasising that while people may deceive others temporarily, no one can deceive God.
Uncertain Future For P-Square
Despite the public exchanges, Paul Okoye has largely refrained from responding directly to many of Peter’s recent claims, although previous disagreements between the twins have frequently played out on social media over the years.
As fresh allegations continue to surface, the once-celebrated reunion of P-Square now appears increasingly distant.
For many fans, the hope remains that the brothers will eventually resolve their differences privately and preserve the legacy of one of Africa’s most influential music groups.
Whether that reconciliation happens, however, remains uncertain as the family dispute continues to unfold in the public eye.
