A 34-year-old man, Iliya Adamu, hanged himself after he was accused of stealing his brother’s N40,000 in Adamawa State.
Adamu’s body remains had been discovered on Tuesday, November 15, hanging on a tree in a nearby bush in Girei, in the Girei LGA of the state.
According to reports, Adamu had resorted to suicide because he could not stand being mocked and labeled a thief. It was said that his brother had pointed accusing fingers at him after the sum of N40,000 kept in a family safe, had gone missing.
After denying stealing the money, Adamu then decided to end his life to ward off embarrassment.
Anonymous sources had said that a container of insecticide was discovered under the tree where his lifeless body was discovered.
The spokesperson for the Adamawa state Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje has already confirmed the incident with a statement saying:
“The command is investigating the suicide.”
