Bright Osayi-Samuel, a Nigerian defender who plays for Turkish club, Fenerbahçe, has been in the news after knocking a violent pitch invader to the ground during a chaotic on-pitch brawl on Sunday night.
According to reports, tension had escalated towards the end of Fenerbahce’s 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
The former Manchester United player, Fred, had scored two goals in the first half, but Fenerbahce clinched the victory with a late 87th-minute goal from Michy Batshuayi.
As they won, the Fenerbahce players gathered in the middle of the pitch to celebrate their victory when all of a sudden, a single albeit furious Trabzonspor fan made his way onto the pitch to taunt and goad the winners of the match but a security team stationed nearby immediately apprehended the individual, who was wearing a mask.
However, on seeing this a significant number of Trabzonspor supporters bypassed the security staff, causing difficulties in maintaining control.
Amidst the chaos, 26-year-old Osayi-Samuel was captured in a video, in the midst of the commotion, chasing a fan and landing a punch to his face, making the masked supporter to fall to the ground.
Several clips of this incident have been posted on X and another one had shown Osayi-Samuel seen celebrating when he suddenly noticed a pitch invader.
In this second video, he confronted the aggressive fan, defended himself against a punch and retaliated with one of his own, as a security guard quickly subdued the unruly fan.
Osayi-Samuel was also seen in the video, being held back by his teammates and security men as the situation grew intense.
The summation of the incident can be tagged down to pure, undiluted jealousy and frustration that the away Team had won.
It is also safe to say that the Trabzonspor fans have no spirit of sportsmanship in them as another hothead was spotted in a video, brandishing a corner flag to use a potential weapon.
The Mirror UK, had reported that the atmosphere became tensed and heated when some home supporters began to throwing objects onto the pitch, aiming at players, coaches, and referees.
Seeing how the situation quickly escalated, a number of Fenerbahce’s players and staff hurriedly made their way into the tunnel for safety.
In a another video, Osayi-Samuel’s name was being chanted by pleased Fenerbahçe fans who had likened him to their hero for the night.
The attitude of the Home team’s fans begs the question:
Was the attack pre-medicated, seeing as the first aggressor wore a mask, a hood, and had a knife concealed in his sleeve. Most like a thug for hire?
