The highly anticipated 2024 African Military Games gets underway later today in Abuja, with an array of scintillating performances from Nigerian music stars D’banj, Olamide, Yemi Alade, and Timi Dakolo headlining the opening ceremony.
The Nigerian Army announced the performances on X, saying the event promises to “light up the opening ceremony like never before.”
This year’s AMGA, hosting at the Moshood Abiola Stadium brings athletes from 25 African countries competing in 19 various sports. While most events will take place at the stadium, some specialized ones like obstacle crossing and shooting, will take place elsewhere.
African Military Games, organized by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa and International Military Sports Council, comes with the aim of fostering unity and camaraderie among military personnel across the continent.
The artists to perform have a rich history of engaging different stages around the world. D’banj performed during the closing ceremony at AFCON 2013 in South Africa, while Yemi Alade performed at the opening ceremony during the last AFCON in Ivory Coast.
