Nigerians Outraged Over Druski’s ‘African Scammers’ Skit, Demand Accountability

American comedian Druski has received severe backlash from many Nigerians on social media since he released a skit titled African scammers be living they best life. In the video, the character known as Baba Oluwatosin engages in fraud and projects Nigerians as scammers, using Naira and multiple Nigerian ATM cards.

The video, posted on X on October 21, 2024, has drawn an immense amount of criticism because many Nigerians feel that Druski is perpetrating harmful stereotypes about their country. While it may be entertaining to some viewers, a vast majority have described the skit as offensive, and online protests are calling for him to take down the content.

One Nigerian angry over the portrayal even commented, “We don’t find this trash skit funny, please delete before morning, thank you.” Adding to the growing criticism, social media influencer Daniel Regha commented, “This is beyond insensitive, Nigerians are often labeled scammers just based on our nationality, and you’re furthering the stereotype with this ill content.”

This has disappointed the fans totally, and they only hope that next time Druski will come up with better and more thoughtful content. Given the number of times he has visited Nigeria, this piece of content did not quite live up to expectations. Another disgruntled fan shared his disappointment thus: “Druski, I love you and everything you do, but this isn’t it bro. You visit one of the biggest countries in Africa and this is the best you can come up with? Disappointing.”

While outrage is growing, Druski has yet to say a word or take down the skit, and many Nigerians await an apology.
