The Nigerian Communications Commission says it will introduce the new tariff plan for data and voice calls, starting from 13th December 2024, meaning a possible hike in costs for the consumers.
The move will reduce the complexity of tariff structures, safeguard consumer interests, and ensure fair competition in the industry. Under the plan, telecom operators would be allowed a maximum of seven tariff and promotional options to cut confusion and increase transparency.
Against this backdrop, the NCC has embarked on sensitization to enlighten the public that the cause of rapid data depletion is varied among devices, hence the need to lessen the misconceptions and better inform consumers about how data are consumed.
In addition, all telecom operators have been directed to update their contact information before January 9, 2025, on the threat of sanctions, which may include the withdrawal of licenses.
It is a great change for Nigeria’s telecommunication sector, as millions of users will probably be affected.
