The Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0), a partnership coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), claims that Nigeria LNG Ltd. (NLNG) has joined it to cut methane emissions.
The partnership, according to the firm, will increase reporting accuracy and openness for methane emissions.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos, Mr. Andy Odeh, the general manager of NLNG’s external relations and sustainable development division, said.
The action, according to Odeh, was a new step in NLNG’s commitment to decarbonization.
NLNG’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, was quoted by Odeh as claiming that the business has signed an MoU with UNEP in the final quarter of 2022.
Mshelbila claimed that the agreement proved the business’ dedication to cutting methane emissions as part of its decarbonization process.
A cleaner, greener energy mix that will include gas will ensure a future for the company and its stakeholders, he said, adding that the company was proudly committed to annual reporting, a gradual reduction of its methane emissions, and decarbonization.
He continued by saying that NLNG was already carrying out a comprehensive program for disclosing and lowering its methane emissions, using the most recent business tools to monitor its performance.
Mshelbila went on to say that NLNG’s journey toward decarbonization would increase stakeholders’ and consumers’ faith in the company’s capacity to care for the environment in which it operates and to maintain its competitiveness on a global scale.
The group expressed excitement over NLNG’s participation in a message to welcome it, noting that Nigeria is a sizable producer of natural gas and one of the major contributors to Africa’s LNG output.
