The management of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra State has come out and said that the stories going viral, saying that nine female students of their university were raped by alleged armed robbers are false and untrue.
According to the statement released on Saturday and signed by Chika Ene, the Acting Head of, Information and Public Relations Unit, the school said that while it was true that thieves had raided the students’ off-campus area, it was false that their female members had been raped as reported by local blogs and media.
Mr. Ene went on to say that the story as reported by the blogs reeked of poor journalism, as their preliminary investigations had revealed no such rape incident, and that they had met with officials from the state government as well as the Nigerian police to provide better security for the students.
