Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s captain, is near the chances of making a return from an ankle injury, per an update given by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. The 25-year-old Norwegian had been ruled out on international duty early in September but may just be fit for the Gunners’ crucial match against Premier League leaders Liverpool next week.

While Odegaard will not be available this weekend against Bournemouth, Arteta hopes he should be ready for next week’s games against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League and Liverpool. “He’s not ready for this game, but next week will be crucial to see how close he is,” said Arteta.

This said, even without Odegaard since August 31, Arsenal are yet to lose a game this season and find themselves just one point adrift of the league leaders Liverpool.

Elsewhere, Arteta confirmed that Bukayo Saka’s injury is not serious and a late decision will be taken on his readiness for the game against Bournemouth. Saka sustained an injury during England’s defeat to Greece but has recuperated quite well.

Meanwhile, forward Kai Havertz may also return after recovering from a knee problem. “If he trains well today, he has a good chance to be fit and available,” said Arteta.

Arsenal will aim to extend their perfect start to the season at Bournemouth.
