At least two persons have died in a road crash that happened around Ota tollgate, along the Abeokuta-Lagos highway, Ogun State on Friday, September 8.

The Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps –FRSC, has confirmed the incident, disclosing that only one person had sustained injuries in the crash.

The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, had stated that the crash, which occurred at about 5:11 am on Friday morning had involved four vehicles comprising of a white Volvo trailer with registration number, T-14223LA; a yellow Volkswagen marked KRD132XX and two Bajaj brand motorbikes with number plates LAR178VL and PKA873VS respectively.

In totality, three individuals were involved in the car crash. The individuals comprised of two male adults and a female adult.

“A male adult is the only confirmed survivor with injuries while the other male adult and one female adult were confirmed dead from the car crash,” Okpe remarked.

According to reports, the suspected cause of the fatal crash was blamed to a wrongful overtaking and over-speeding on the part of the truck driver, which led to a collision with one of the motorbikes – which in turn, led to the bike crashing into the Volkswagen vehicle and the other motorcycle.

The dead victims have been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, has urged motorists to always drive in consideration of other vehicles on the road. Uga had also emphasized that all road users should always strive to maintain the required speed limit in the road, even as he offered his condolences to the dead victims’ families.
