It’s good to see that people are aware of their rights and know to seek redress if these rights are being breached. Reports have it that a group of Communities in the Okitipupa L.G.A of the state have brought a suit to the state High Court, suing Wee-Wood Nigeria ltd located in the area for environmental pollution.

According to the communities, the waste products from the company were affecting their environment, polluting the land and water.

The claimants Oloja Emmanuel and Fagbohun Olakunle, the Claimants who brought the claim on behalf of the community demanded 200 million in damages from the defendant for the inconveniences the company has caused.

According to the claim, They also sought “an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant by itself, its servants or agents or otherwise from repeating continuing the said nuisance and any nuisance of a like kind or the said adverse physical and psychological effect on the claimants.”

“They further prayed the court order for “general damage in the sum of N200million only, against the defendant for the effect of the harmful chemical” on their land, water and environment.”

The court has fixed the hearing for January 23, 2023.
