The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently reviewing the results of the Ondo governorship election, following a meeting of its Governors’ Forum in Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a decisive victory in the election, earning a four-year term as Governor of Ondo State. However, PDP governors, in a resolution from their meeting, accused the APC of manipulating the election, including vote-buying and tampering with results.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, chair of the forum, stated, “We are examining the documents from the Ondo elections, where the APC manipulated results after openly buying votes.” The forum has urged the judiciary to protect Nigeria’s democracy and called on the National Assembly to amend electoral laws to prevent the sabotage of the people’s will.
The Ondo election comes just two months after the PDP governors condemned the Edo governorship election, which they also described as a “rape of democracy” due to alleged result manipulation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in favor of the APC.
Additionally, the PDP governors are pushing for a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting by February 2025 to address the party’s ongoing leadership crisis and engage stakeholders for a way forward.
In Conclusion, the PDP is taking a strong stance on electoral integrity, demanding action from the judiciary and the National Assembly while seeking to resolve internal leadership challenges ahead of future elections.
