There was also a shortlist of six players revealed by the Professional Footballers’ Association regarding the Young Player of the Year Award for 2023/24. This award is given to players who are 21 years or younger at the start of the season and is voted for solely by the members of the PFA union, which truly brings out the real glittering young talents shining in English football.
The previous year’s winner, Bukedo Saka, makes it to the list once more after his stellar form once again for Arsenal. Saka registered 16 goals and nine assists as the Gunners finished second in the Premier League; the winger turned 22 years old in September 2023.
Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho represent Manchester United. In 36 matches, Garnacho became rather important for United, scoring seven goals and making four assists, while Mainoo — on his return from injury — had put on a good performance for his team with three goals and one assist in 24 games.
Another massive contender is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer after making a stunning debut season, contributing 22 goals and 11 assists in just 33 matches. In the running, too, is Brighton’s Joao Pedro, who came from Watford last summer, scoring nine goals and making three assists in 31 games.
The final nominee, Michael Olise, had already made his summer switch to Bayern Munich. Olise enjoyed an outstanding final campaign at Crystal Palace, scoring ten times and making six more in just 19 appearances.
The winners of the PFA awards will be revealed on August 20.
