The resignation of the Bishop of the Polish Diocese has been accepted by the Pope, in the midst of an investigation into a scandal involving a gay orgy. Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak’s unexpected departure from the position of authority in Sosnowiec, southwestern Poland, remains unexplained by the Vatican.
Despite his resignation, the spotlight remains on the diocese following a criminal investigation into one of its priests, who allegedly orchestrated the scandal in Dabrowa Gornicza. A male prostitute reportedly faced medical complications after consuming erectile dysfunction pills.
The priest’s actions are suspected to have hindered the aid provided to the distressed individual, leading to scrutiny from the prosecutor. Bishop Kaszak’s statement stressed the church’s commitment to penalizing any guilty parties, regardless of civil court outcomes.
The swiftness with which the Pope removed Kaszak, who had served in the position since 2009, was noteworthy. Meanwhile, the priest involved in the scandal has yet to face charges. He refuted claims of obstructing paramedics from entering his apartment, also contesting the definition of the term “orgy.”
The ongoing allegations of sexual abuse within the Polish Catholic Church have been a source of persistent controversy, resulting in the forced resignation of multiple bishops and undermining the church’s reputation in its historical roots.
In the interim, Archbishop Adrian Galbas of Katowice has been appointed as the temporary administrator for the diocese of Sosnowiec, until the selection of a new bishop.
