Reality TV star Queen Mercy Atang has addressed the recent controversy surrounding her social media activity, clarifying why she unfollowed her husband, David Oyekanmi, and deleted their wedding photos from Instagram.
In a video shared online, Queen explained that the decision was not driven by marital problems but was a deliberate attempt to protect her marriage from public scrutiny and online interference.
According to her, the move was necessary due to the volume of messages her husband receives from women on his Instagram account. “I was just trying to take my relationship off social media,” she said. “Because my husband’s account is out there, a lot of girls feel the need to slide in his DM to say positive and negative things.”
She added that her choice was influenced by public figures who maintain privacy around their spouses and relationships, suggesting that less visibility could lead to fewer complications.
Although her actions led to widespread speculation about a possible crisis in the marriage, Queen has since restored their wedding photos and re-added her husband’s name to her Instagram bio, putting the rumors to rest.
The couple got married in March 2024, and the deletion of the photos in October 2024 had triggered concerns among fans about a potential split.
