Wait! You don’t need to throw away your leftover cooked white rice, when you can make egg fried rice. Egg fried rice is a popular and easy-to-make dish that people all over the world love. It started in China but has become a favorite in many places because it’s so simple to whip up.

Egg fried rice is a réchauffé dish. Réchauffé is a fancy French word that means heating up leftovers to make a new meal. When you make egg fried rice, you usually mix it with a couple of things like vegetables and eggs. This way, you don’t waste food, and you get a tasty new dish from what you already have. In this article, we’ll look at an easy egg fried rice recipe.

Ingredients

This ingredient list is divided into essential ingredients and optional ingredients (the not-so essential ones).

Essential ingredients: Cooked rice (day-old is preferred), eggs (the amount of eggs depends on the quantity of rice you have left), soy sauce, sesame oil, salt and green onions.

Optional ingredients: Oyster sauce, seasoning cubes, protein (chicken, shrimp, pork), vegetables (carrots, peas, corn), garlic and ginger

Equipment Needed

The equipment needed is not anything fancy, you just need:

  • a large frying pan for stir-frying your ingredients together
  • a wooden spoon or spatula to properly mix the ingredients together
  • a cutting board to chop your vegetables into smaller pieces
    a knife for chopping the ingredients

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Rice

The first thing to do is to break up clumps of rice, using your hands or a fork to gently separate the rice so it’s not sticking together. Then lightly toast the rice in a dry pan, heat a large pan over medium heat, add the rice, and stir it occasionally until it feels dry and a little crispy.

Step 2: Preparing the Egg

Crack the eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt and whisk them lightly until it are properly mixed. Heat the pan over medium heat, add a bit of oil, pour in the eggs, and stir until they’re just set. Then, take them out and set them aside.

Step 3: Stir-frying the Ingredients

Heat oil in the wok: Add some oil to the large pan and heat it over medium-high heat. Add garlic and ginger (if you decide to use them) and stir-fry for a few seconds until they smell good.

Furthermore, add any chopped meat (like chicken or shrimp) and vegetables (like peas or carrots) and stir-fry until they’re cooked.

Step 4: Add cooked rice and break up any clumps

Add the toasted rice to the large pan and use a spatula to break up any clumps. Put the cooked scrambled eggs back into the large pan, and mix them with the rice and other ingredients.

Step 5: Season with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil

Pour in some soy sauce, a bit of oyster sauce, a little bit of seasoning cubes to taste and a little sesame oil. Stir everything together so the rice is evenly coated. Finally, sprinkle chopped green onions on top and give the dish one last stir before serving.

Are There Any Tips To Make A Better Egg Fried Rice?

Yes, there are. Using rice that’s been in the fridge for a day makes your fried rice less sticky and gives it a better texture. Freshly cooked rice can be too moist and clumpy for this recipe.
