Rating the Iconic Outfits from High-Profile Nigerian Weddings in the First Half of 2024
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Almost as if it happened in the blink of an eye, 2024 is already halfway over and what a ride it has been so far. The first half of 2024 began with notable wedding, seemingly planned the year prior, leaving Nigerians (cue: the singletons) chanting “God when?” every time a celebrity ties the nuptial knots with the beau.

From the entertainment industry to the gospel sector, no gender was spared from Cupid’s bow as it’s been a tale of romance for these public figures. Our favorite celebrities have steadily given us (the audience and fans) a front row seat to their journey of saying “I do” to their respective partners.

While each love story was unique, with some being controversial, everyone can agree that each couple served their best fashion game —to the best of their abilities—, but when observed side by side with their peers, was it enough, or did it fall off the à la monde chart?

This article is a fashionable refresher to the stylish side of the celebrity love stories we’ve witnessed in the first six months of this year. So sit tight and buckle up– it’s about to be an eye-opening journey down memory lane.
With no further delays, I bring to you the weddings, from the most recent, to the earliest nuptials.

#LoveUnitesUs24/#CrazyAboutUs24: Sharon Ooja and Ugo Nwoke

This wedding just happened recently and is still fresh off everyone’s mind, especially because of the lingering controversy surrounding the groom. Nevertheless, the outfits from this union were sublime. Everyone, including the celebrity guests, chief bridesmaids, aso-ebi girls, groomsmen and the couple themselves left no stone unturned in making sure their fashion game was a slay.

I’m rating this stylish union a solid 9/10.

#Chivido24: David Adeleke (Davido) and Chioma Rowland

It was only natural that one of Nigeria’s foremost and leading singers, Davido’s wedding would be the talk of the whole country when the traditional wedding date was revealed. It is safe to say that Mr and Mrs. Adeleke’s wedding was a romantic variant of Michael Rubin’s ‘All White Party’ as the elite dignitaries in Nigeria (politicians included) attended the grandeur ceremony.

Fashion-wise, the newly-weds outfit was fabulous and gave the impression that it was well thought out. From Davido’s Edo outfit to Chioma’s unique spin on the Igbo bride’s traditional attire, every piece was stunning. Overall, I’ll give this flashy wedding an 8.5/10.

#Two24: Wofai Ewa and Taiwo Cole

This wedding was yet another controversial union that permeated the streets of social media and set tongues wagging. The controversy surrounding this wedding almost overshadowed the stunning cultural outfits worn by the couple on their big day.

It was evident from the pre-wedding pictures released on social media that this ceremony would be a cultural extravaganza, and the actual ceremony lived up to expectations showcasing the rich beauty of both Cross River and Yoruba cultures. Style-wise: This wedding was an 8/10.

#TheAdejos/#Gracelane: Neon Adejo and Lade Kehinde

While Neon Adejo’s wedding to his heartthrob might have been one of the quieter ceremonies on this list, the fashion choices were bold enough to compensate.

Lade, Neon Adejo’s wife, showcased her fashion prowess in the stunning pre-wedding photos and wedding photos she shared on her Instagram page.

Safe to say that Minister Neon’s fashion style is in safe hands with his wife. Fashion-wise this wedding is rated: 7/10.

#SalemandJesi/#SKJD: Salem King and Jesi Damina

Salem King, the popular Instagram content creator, and Jesimiel Damina, the Best Friends In The World actress, surprised fans with a sudden wedding announcement, making their union one of the most talked-about on this list.

While everyone (except their close family and friends) was still recuperating from the big announcement, the couple stunned everyone with their rich, traditional wedding attires.

During the church wedding, the bride opted for a minimalistic makeup look and a simple outfit, while the groom wore a cream-colored tuxedo with a black bow tie.

Traditionally, the couple who both have their roots in the Northern region of Nigeria, used their nuptials to showcase the abundant cultural heritage of the Northern people of Nigeria.

For context, the bride hails from Kaduna State while the groom is from Nasarawa State. Considering these factors, this wedding gets away with a rating of 8.5/10.

#Dash24: Yinka Ashogbon and Precious Chidera Udeh

Anyone that closely followed this wedding (either online or as a guest) will tell you that this wedding exuded class and they wouldn’t be mistaken. Most online guests raved about how the wedding was straight from their fantasies, in terms of the aesthetics and general planning.

The CEO and founder of Ashluxe and Ashluxury, Yinka Ashogbon got hitched to his model sweetheart and now wife, Precious Chidera in a private society wedding, attended by the highbrow men and women in Lagos State.

The bride wore a gorgeous baby pink outfit complete with matching lace, for her Igbo traditional ceremony, completing the groom’s black senator outfit.

For the church wedding ceremony, Precious went the minimalistic route in a white silk dress adorned with intricate lace details. Her veil stole the show with its unique embroidery, quoting the book of Ruth from the bible: “Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God, my God.”

Yinka, on the other hand, wore a white double-breasted suit paired with matching white trousers. This classy wedding is rated: 9/10

#SailingtoSunday: Theophilus Sunday and Ashlee White

This was another wedding announcement that took the Nigerian internet by storm. Gospel minister, Theophilus Sunday’s pre-wedding pictures with his now-wife was the subject of various think pieces for a while on X (formerly Twitter) but the minimalistic fashion of the couple drew hearts to the union.

In the pre-wedding pictures, the bride wore a lacy white gown, accessorizing with a white gele and silver jewelry. The groom on the other hand wore a matching senator regalia. Their wedding outfits didn’t differ from this monochromatic color scheme. Style-wise, this wedding is rated: 7.5/10

#DeRoyals24: Queen Mercy Atang and David Oyekanmi

This former Big Brother Naija housemate, Mercy Atang caused quite an uproar on the internet when news of her planning a wedding broke.

Undeterred by the internet warriors, she proceeded to tie the knot with her beau in a romantic court wedding.

For the occasion, Queen Mercy looked stunning in a white blazer and black pants, while her doting husband complemented her attire beautifully. In terms of fashion, this wedding is rated: 7/10

#ForeverBliss/#MMBliss24: Moses Bliss and Marie Wiseborn

It will be a big disservice if I don’t acknowledge Moses Bliss, the popular Nigerian gospel artist for ‘opening’ the marriage gates for his brethren and setting the tone for the Christian marriages we have seen thus far.

2024 was barely ushered in when Moses announced his engagement to Marie in an Instagram post that garnered a lot of likes and goodwill.

For their wedding ceremony, Marie looked modest but elegant in her silk and lace white dress, while Moses Bliss was a dapper groom in his custom ivory suit, complementing his bride. The wedding rating: 7.5/10

#LoveUnbeaten24: Veekee James and Femi Atere

Nigeria’s foremost celebrity designer, Veekee James got married to her husband in a lavish ceremony that was eagerly awaited by her fans.

It was a spectacular wedding that boasted high-profile guests in attendance and the celebrated couturier ensured her nuptials were the talk of the town. She wowed everyone by donning 10 high-fashion wedding outfits, each more stunning than the last, all crafted by her own hands.

The wedding exuded elegance and cultural richness, featuring stunning traditional attires and outfits that paid homage to old Hollywood. The grandeur and voguishness of the whole event deserves a rating of 9.8/10

#KTTV24/#OkoTiwi: Kunle Remi and Boluwatiwi Oye

Nigerian actor, Kunle Remi broke a lot of hearts when he announced his marriage to his partner Tiwi at the start of the new year.

It turned out that he had a court marriage on 31st December, 2023, surprising his colleagues in the movie industry and fans alike.

The traditional and church weddings were celebrated with pomp and fanfare, solidifying it as an event filled with love and romance between the couple.

This upscale wedding is seated comfortably at a rating of an 8/10.

Among these remarkable weddings, which one made you swoon over the most? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
