Former Chelsea manager, Roberto Di Matteo, insists that new head coach Xabi Alonso has everything needed to guide Chelsea back into the Uefa champions league following the blues’ disastrous 2025-2026 campaign.
Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier league last season, after suffering a dramatic slide following the january departure of enzo maresca, which resulted in no european football for the Londoners for the second time in many 4 years. but Di Matteo, chelsea’s 2012 Champions league winning manager, thinks the lack of midweek European football could play into Alonso’s hands.

The manager will have the whole week to work with the players, shape the team and prepare for matches.i expect chelsea to have a really good season and finish in the top four. The italian boss highlighted chelsea’s history of quickly bouncing back from disappointing campaigns.
He cited the case of Antonio Conte who led chelsea to a Premier league title in 2016-2017 after the club had also finished 10th in the preceding year. Alonso has agreed a four-year deal and will start his new job with the club’s first league fixture of the new season at home to fellow london club Fulham.
Chelsea fans will be looking forward to the former Bayer leverkusen boss bringing the club back into England’s top four to qualify for europe once more.
