Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly cut off all personal contact with winger Marcus Rashford in a deadlock with the pair. Amorim — whom Rashford’s attitude and workrate have not recently satisfied — saying he would pick 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital over the Englishman.
Amorim refrains from speaking to Rashford except in squad-wide conversations, according to The Guardian, instead leaving the 27-year-old feeling increasingly isolated in light of his public statements that he is looking for a “new challenge.” Rashford has been available to transfer this month, but has struggled to generate offers and is now said to be trying to win Amorim’s trust back.
United fans, as well as club legends have had their say on the situation, with Rio Ferdinand claiming Rashford has “no way back” at the club and Paul Scholes saying the forward should be banished from the dressing room. Scholes told The Overlap: “Marcus has disappointed a lot of people through his attitude. Young players like Garnacho idolize him, and he’s setting a terrible standard. His behavior is like that of someone who says, ‘I’m not interested in getting involved.’ ”
With tensions rising, Rashford’s place at Old Trafford is not guaranteed, and the player may find himself losing form and significance in the group.
