Ruben Amorim, the sixth permanent manager of Manchester United since their 2013 Premier League win, is confident that he can restore the club to former glories. The 39-year-old Portuguese, unveiled at Carrington on Friday ahead of his debut match against Ipswich Town, embraced the challenge of what many call “the impossible job.”
I believe in myself, the club, and the players,” Amorim said. “I know you [media] don’t believe much, but I do. I want to try new things. You may think it’s impossible, but I don’t.
Amorim, who signed after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in October, has had limited time with the squad due to the international break but emphasized focusing on small improvements. “We lose the ball too often. It’s about improving the details. Understanding the small things is what I’m good at,” he noted.
A former Sporting Lisbon manager, Amorim ended the club’s 19-year title drought in 2021 before securing another Primeira Liga title last season. His charisma allied to his tactical acumen saw him catapult to being one of the most coveted young coaches in Europe.
Amorim didn’t dismiss the legacy of his countryman Jose Mourinho yet added, “I’m different. Football has changed, and I believe I am the right man for this moment.
