Russia revealed its intentions to bolster its ties with North Korea, although it refrained from confirming the White House’s claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin had engaged in correspondence with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The White House expressed its concerns on the preceding day, citing active advancements in arms negotiations between Russia and North Korea, and stated that Putin and Kim had exchanged letters, pledging to enhance their collaborative efforts.
When questioned by reporters about the letter exchange, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not provide a direct response.
Peskov did affirm that Moscow and Pyongyang maintain a positive and mutually respectful relationship, with plans to further strengthen these ties. He referred to North Korea as “a very important neighbor.”
Previously, Washington had raised concerns about North Korea potentially supplying weapons to Russia for use against Ukraine. This month, the United States imposed sanctions on three entities alleged to be involved in arms dealings between North Korea and Russia.
