The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has expressed concern over the burgeoning alliance between Russia and China, cautioning that it could potentially divide the world. In a statement, Borrell emphasized the need for the international community to acknowledge the implications of this partnership and work towards maintaining global unity.

The Russia-China alliance, Borrell noted, poses significant geopolitical challenges, as it has the potential to create a rift in international relations. He emphasized that the EU is committed to promoting multilateralism and fostering cooperation among nations, and urged other global powers to share this commitment.

Borrell’s remarks come at a time when Russia and China are increasingly aligning their interests, particularly in the areas of trade, security, and technology.

The two nations have been strengthening their bilateral relations, with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently declaring their partnership a “comprehensive strategic partnership.”

The EU foreign policy chief’s warning is a call to action for the international community to prioritize diplomacy and cooperation. Borrell stressed that the world cannot afford to be divided, and that collective action is necessary to address pressing global challenges, such as climate change, pandemics, and economic inequality.

In light of this development, the EU has reiterated its commitment to engaging with both Russia and China, with the aim of promoting understanding and cooperation. Borrell emphasized that the EU’s approach will be guided by its values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

The EU remains steadfast in its dedication to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity for all nations. By working together, the international community can mitigate the risks associated with the Russia-China alliance and foster a more united and equitable world.
