Leicester City is set to appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager, British media reports said. The Dutchman, 48, is expected to replace Steve Cooper, who was shown the door after a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday.
The sacking of Cooper had been a surprise to some, considering Leicester sit just above the relegation zone in their return to the Premier League, but with only two wins from their first 12 league games, the hierarchy at the club seems determined to find a fresh approach.
Van Nistelrooy, who had been United’s interim manager following the exit of Erik ten Hag, boasts a wealth of experience in the Premier League as a player and served as an assistant coach at United prior to the arrival of the club’s permanent manager, Ruben Amorim.
The Telegraph reports that the former striker is in advanced talks with Leicester and is expected to be confirmed imminently. Van Nistelrooy’s arrival could provide the Foxes with a much-needed boost as they look to turn their season around.
Leicester’s next test comes against Brentford on November 30, where fans will hope to see signs of revival under their prospective new boss.
