The Canadian police are presently probing an early morning shooting that occurred at the home of superstar rapper Drake, on Tuesday.
Drake’s sprawling property located in a tony Toronto neighbourhood had remained sealed off.
Meanwhile, Police inspector, Paul Krawczyk had said a security guard at the mansion on The Bridle Path road was rushed to the hospital with grave injuries gotten from a gunshot wound after suspects in a vehicle opened fire.
Reports revealed that the shooting, captured on grainy security camera footage (not yet released to the public), had happened at 2:09 am (06:09 GMT).
Krawczyk had also said that the security guard had been standing outside the gates in front of Drake’s residence when the shooting took place. The police inspector also revealed that the suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, but no descriptions were given.
The 37-year-old is currently embroiled in a feud with another prominent rapper, Kendrick Lamar, with both rappers exchanging barbed “diss tracks” that have drawn widespread attention from their fans.
Why It Matters:
The occasional beefs among artistes in Hollywood are nothing new in hip-hop, a very controversial genre that thrives on the takedown of rivals.
Meanwhile, there is no indication that the shooting had been related to the rap beef he’s been having with Kendrick Lamar.
What They’re Saying:
“I cannot confirm if Drake was home at the time the incident occurred, but I can tell you that we are in contact with his team and they are cooperating.” the inspector added.
When Krawczyk was asked about the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, he said he was aware of it, but has added that “it was still so early in the investigation that we don’t have a motive at this time, and so I cannot comment further on that.”
