Nigeria’s Senate had on Wednesday, May 3, passed a bill proposing life imprisonment with no option of fine for unlawful explosives manufacturers in the country.
Section 11 of the bill proposing to repeal the Explosives Act 1964 and instead enact the Explosives Act 2023 passed for third reading in the Senate on Wednesday, May 3.
According to the bill, anyone unlawfully manufacturing explosives of any kind was committing an offense and is liable on conviction to life imprisonment with no option of fine.
Senator Adeleke Oriolowo from Osun State who had presented the report on behalf of the committee chairman had remarked that the issue associated with the use, shipment, manufacture, sale, and possession of explosives was alarming, as criminals were getting more innovative in their use of explosives to perpetrate crimes.
