In the Durumi 3 neighborhood of Gaduwa, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Administration on Wednesday started demolishing homes and evicting residents. As some homes and small-business establishments were demolished as a result of the eviction, hundreds of people were left homeless and jobless. Residents living in unplanned areas of the nation’s capital city experienced a mixture of fear and rage.
Mohammed Adam, an eyewitness, reported that the eviction started around 10 am on Wednesday and was overseen by Nigerian Army soldiers. Adam said they had arrived to mark the houses for demolition approximately two months ago,
The FCTA cited an apparent suspicion of terrorist infiltration of the community as justification for the destruction, according to an affected resident who also talked under the condition of anonymity. A Central Mosque and a Redeemed Christian Church of God church were among the buildings that were destroyed. This incident is just one of many recent home demolitions and evictions that have taken place in the nation’s capital city.
