In a country like Nigeria, democracy has lost its true essence, as an individual cannot openly declare who he/she wished to vote for because they may be trolled or insulted by supporters of an opposition party. The elections have ended but people are still being threatened for their choice of candidate in the election.
Oluwaseyitan Aletile, a popular Nigerian comedian who is known by his stage name, seyi law, shared screenshots of threats messages, that were sent to his wife over his choice of candidate.
In the message, they sent a picture of his daughter and threatened that even though he relocated his family to the UK, they’d know where they stay, and they’ll find them
Sharing a screenshot of the threat, he said, “See what one of them sent to my wife. Even more in my dm for not supporting their candidate.”
This is wrong on all levels as we all have a right to vote for whoever we so desire
