Shakira, the pop sensation, has been admitted to a hospital in Peru due to a stomach ailment, causing her to cancel her scheduled Sunday performance in the Andean nation.
The Colombian singer shared this update on her Instagram story on Sunday.
She wrote, “I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized. The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.
I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today. I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.
“I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform.
My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you.
Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all.
Shak”.
Reports indicate that the singer made her first appearance in Lima in more than ten years on Saturday.
Videos shared on her Instagram account captured hundreds of fans welcoming her at the airport.
Shakira, renowned in the Spanish-speaking world for songs like “La Tortura” with Alejandro Sanz and her 2023 diss track against ex-partner Gerard Piqué, produced by Argentine DJ Bizarrap, is celebrated as a pioneer for Latin artists making their mark in the English-speaking market.
The singer’s most iconic song is “Hips Don’t Lie,” a collaboration with Wyclef Jean, known for showcasing her signature gyrating dance moves.
