Human rights activist, Mr Obiora Omeje has appealed to the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah to employ diplomatic means in his plans to stop the ceaseless Monday sit-at-home in the state.
It can be recalled that Mbah had upon assuming the office of the state governor, directed that all offices and businesses would be opened for activities on Mondays.
The notable sit-at-home order had begun in the southeast as part of a protest against Nnamdi Kanu’s imprisonment by the Nigeria Government.
However, in a statement on Wednesday June 14, Activist Omeje had remarked that the executive fiat would not be enough to terminate the order, as it could endanger the lives of the residents.
Omeje has then proposed that Igbo leaders/chiefs should be invited to help the campaign for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
I am of the school of thought that the sit-at-home order should be scrapped as the ‘protest’ has done nothing towards the actualisation of the Biafran dream nor helped Nnamdi Kanu’s case as he is still being imprisoned by the Nigerian Federal Government.
Unfortunately, the scrapping of the southeastern public holiday won’t come easy considering past incidents of bloodletting for individuals that attempted to step out of their homes on the proscribed day.
