The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has announced that Sudan’s warring generals have agreed to a three-day ceasefire beginning on Tuesday, April 25 after previous bids to pause the conflict had not yielded any fruit.
Blinken had in a statement written two hours before the truce was to go into effect said:
“After intense negotiation over the past 48 hours (2 days), the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have agreed to implement a nationwide ceasefire to begin at midnight on April 24, and it will last for 72 hours.”
Additionally, Blinken had disclosed that the United States was working with partners to set up a committee to negotiate a permanent ceasefire in Sudan, where the conflict between the two rival generals had descended into bloody violence.
