Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade spoke out Friday to express disappointment after their ouster from the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic football event. The Nigerian team lost 1-3 to the host, Japan, in its final Group ‘C’ match, ending with the biggest loss of the tournament.
This defeat left the Super Falcons bereft of a point and just one goal in three matches to boot. However, what is more saddening is the fact that it was their first Olympic appearance in 16 years, and they made such an early exit.
While reacting to the outcome, Ajibade said, “It was a disappointing outcome in the end for the team after three tough tests against some of the best football teams in the world.” In spite of that, she expressed appreciation for the support they received all through the competition. “We thank you for your endless love and support. We appreciate every one of you,” she said.
Their return home from France brings an end to the tough campaign where the team failed to create much impact on the Olympic stage. The regrouping process is now the task for the Super Falcons, with the preparation for other competitions ahead, drawing lessons from the Olympic campaign.
